Well, Japan certainly gets all the cool toys first... In this case, our Japanese office just took delivery on their latest vehicle, a 2011 STI Sedan. They opted for an automatic version as well - not just for novelty value, but because it's likely to be the best seller in Japan. Development of new parts for this new sedan is going to procede at a break neck pace, with a lot of items in the pipeline. But for now, enjoy the pictures!

Car looks great from those low down shots, including lack of rear spoiler. Thanks for sharing. Kev.

In Japan you can order a stripper

The below parts are all options

1 Stereo (Dont need it)
2 Wing (I could not make my mind up OEM or Aftermarket wing)
3 Brembos (I will be Upgrading the brakes with our big brake kit)

I have to say a great car for stock it handles very well on the mountain roads 160+km :rice: The Auto is very impressive they have done some grate work on the Auto Brain (The Throttle BLIPS on down changes :) )

In the next week I will see what its got on the dyno and do a 0-400 meter Run

I have put on about 400 kilometers now. I dug up the old g-tech, threw it on and did a 0-400meter run. Its about 30 degrees celcius, forgot to turn off the traction control (flash flash flash, whoops!), and did it in Drive mode. Hit 154.3 km/h, 16.12 seconds. Im going to do it again in the evening when it's a little cooler out, with the traction control off, and in manual mode, and with the video on.

We are going to throw it on the dyno today, and corner weigh it as well. I want to see how heavy it is...

Some say less talk more action. But I reckon more torque less traction!

Some photos from yesterday - we corner weighed it, threw it on the dyno and did some baseline runs, then threw in an AVO panel filter and rear mufflers for a quick comparison.

With gas in the gas tank, all fluids, etc - 1521kg. About 3400lbs.

I threw the g-tech, on and did a 0-400meter run. Its about 34 degrees celsius, I turned off the traction control and did it in drive mode. Hit 156.8 km/h, 15.77 seconds.

Sorry if I'm intruding this post, but just curious to know whether you know the OEM wing for 2011 will fit on the 09-10 sedans?

Cheers,
Ian

So… since we've had the car for roughly, oh, 6 days now. So time to rip out the suspension! First came out the stabilizer bars, bushings, and endlinks.

It's not that we felt that the stock swaybars are all that bad, actually. They are quite well balanced for the street, and for once you don't need to compensate for crap dampers. It's just that, given the driving we will be putting it through, we wanted to remove the initial bit of roll you get when you chuck it into the corner.

[i]The standard front bar and endlink.

Image

We measured the front bar 20mm.

Image

So out it came, and in went a 23mm AVO bar, polyurethane bushings, and 55mm adjustable endlinks.

Image

Then out back is a solid 18mm rear stabilizer bar. Nothing new here either.

Image

The stock endlink vs. the AVO adjustable endlinke with Polyurethane bushing.

Image

The AVO 21mm rear bar that will replace it.

Image

The AVO 21mm rear bar, polyurethane bushing, and rear adjustable endlinks. It goes in very easy, you don't even need to remove the exhaust to get it out and in.

Image

Doing the front and rear bars, bushings, and endlinks are a fairly easy job (even if you weren't a mechanic) and only took a couple hours max. This setup is working quite well - the car is still well balanced, but the initial bit of roll is gone, and it just flies through the corners.

Next up was the steering rack bushings! These got a bit more complicated to do on the 08+ STI from the older STI modesl, but the results are worth it. More feedback and less "movement" from the steering is always a bonus.

Here's the standard setup. You've got two bushings underneath that bracket on the left, that sort of looks like a C mark (and has a rubber band around it….???). Then there is the more familiar large O-shaped gasket on the right side.

Image

Yeah, I swear that's a rubber band. Maybe Subaru felt it just needed a little bit more to hold it all together? Or, actually, maybe they use that to hold the bracket in place when installing.

Image

Aaaannnd a somewhat fuzzier pick of the big bushing. Quite easy to get this one out.

Image

Underneath the C bracket is two bushings. Take them out, put the AVO bushings in. With some grease. A lot of grease.

Image

Here's both sides that you need to do. Note all the grease? Grease is good. Stop any future issues with squeaking right here!

Image

And here it is, all together again. It sure is nice working on a new car, not one that has 3 years of underbody guck on it...

Image

While we were under there, we couldn't help but slap on the underbody brace too. It is a quick install, and once it is on, it helps the front turn in tremendously.
