Just want to revisit the passenger session thing.

This weekend is a day at Winton. I have
a) a potential new navigator who I need to take at speed around something to see if she gets sick, and
b) TWO petrol heads who are thinking about doing track days, and would like to come for a ride to see if it's something they're up to. Lots of people perceive these track days the same way as the in car V8 "super"car footage they see on TV. With the odd ahem exception, our days have little in common with this.

I can't ask them to drive for 2 hours to Winton on a "there MAY BE passenger sessions".

You guys are losing out to Tampered motorsport track days in this respect (which always fill), because they guarantee passenger rides.

My personal opinion, is that the WRX club should make a decision one way or the other; and communicate it. If it wasn't for evocup, I'd be attending fewer WRX days (probably none at Winton) because Tampered offer me a better package for my needs..

I don't understand how Tampered's insurance allows them to run passenger sessions for the full day, yet WRX days often don't have passenger sessions at all? I'm sure there's a reason, but as a "customer"(?) I'd be MUCH happier if WRX days at Winton had an alloted passenger session. Having said that, your club members are the MOST important people to look after..

It's also very hard for me to hook in the next "generation" of competitors (these two I'm talking about both have WRX's by the way) if there's no way that they can get a decent feel on track . Stepping up to driver training is a MUCH bigger comittment than sitting in a passenger seat...

Apart from that, very happy :)

Perhap passenger laps should be done later in the arvo when the crowds thin out a little. Seems the only complaint I have ever heard against passenger laps is that hold up the rest of the crowd from running laps in the middle of their day....

Would be a good idea to have a set ruling on it though for all future rounds....and this one!

Might be worth getting your mates to do a day at Winton when they have one of their "Fun Days", they are supposed to be good value...

Except, ol wise one.

The 80% rule,(which white line fever never seems to happen). Lets call it the red car off at sandown scenario, which severely depleted waiting times that day.

I think the end of day is an excellent idea. on most days ther seems to half to an hour of wasted paid for track time that never gets used. Also they don't need to wait allday for a maybe. Some disclaimer like 6 time sessions must be completed then passenger sessions.

The only down side of Wintons is that each passenger must pay around $15, the up side is that you can put someone beside you at 100% in every session. Great for sponsors, and to give partners a better idea of just how safe it is out there and a better understanding of our passion. :rice:

personally, waiting to hang around all day for a maybe they completed the 6 session sucks.
the only reason i race on track days is from a passenger lap in my mates RS lib at sandown.
If managed properly with no fugging around, there is no reason passenger session cant be run b4 lunch break.
I also believe they really need to be 100% confirmed as running.

Track day at PI run by piarc i did in my old bugSTi was allowed to run passengers ALL DAY.

Sorry if I repeating something that has been mentioned. I have been reading through this thread over a few days and might have skipped a page or two.

Dedicated motorsport orientation/familiarisation days

I was in the MG car club for my first year and I did a motorsport familiarisation day at Rob Roy. It included a hill climb, motorkhana and a weird trials type thing on the side of the hill. Crazy MG owners... :) A mate of mine did it recently and also raved about it.

The weirdness aside. A whole day dedicated to beginners was awesome. Really low barrier to entry for newbies. Even less pressure than DT on a motorsport day - everyone there is new. You can take the time to go through every detail - how to fill out the forms, how to prepare your car, how a motorsport day runs, etc.

I really like doing DT, but as I am a little bit competitive by nature I don't really like juggling it when I am also running on the day. That said, I would be pleased to be involved (including helping to coordinate) in a day helping newcomers get started. It is easy to do things like cones on apexes if it is a dedicated DT day. (I don't think cones are appropriate during competition as they can end up on track and cause delays.)
